Craters of the Moon

The hike up Inferno Cone is brief and rewarding

Today we departed Ketchum for Jackson Hole and made a stop at Craters of the Moon National Monument. We highly recommend paying the $20 for a carload to spend a few hours here hiking around the strange landscape. The park is extremely well-maintained with excellent paths and plenty of markings. The highlight for us was the hike to the top of Inferno Cone. The entire cone is made up of lightweight, very coarse pumice that has not had much time to erode in the last couple of years.

Most of Inferno Cone is made up of bits of pumice like this one
We like to class up anyplace we travel, hence the thrift store lawn chairs
